30 The apostles assembled together with Jesus and told him everything- all they had accomplished and what they had been teaching. 31 And he said to them “Come on! Let’s go to a deserted place and rest, just for a while.” For they had been so busy coming and going that they hadn’t even had a chance to eat yet. 32 And they went off in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. 33 Others saw them leaving, many of whom recognized them. And the people from the towns there rushed out to where they were going. 34 (Jesus) went out to them and- seeing such a great crowd- was moved, for they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things. 35 And since it was already late, his disciples came to him and were saying “This place is a wasteland and it’s already late. 36 Release them, so they can go out into the surrounding fields and villages and buy something to eat.” 37 But Jesus answered them: “Give them something to eat.” And they said to him “Do you want us to go off and buy two hundred silver coins worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 And he said to them “Go and check how many loaves of bread you have.” They already knew the answer, and told him “five, and two fish.” 39 So he commanded them all to lay down in different groups on the green grass. 40 And they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 And, having taken the five loaves and two fish, he looked to the sky and said a blessing and broke the loaves into pieces. He kept giving piece after piece to his disciples so they could share them. And he shared the two fish with everybody. 42 And everybody ate and was satisfied. 43 And they had 12 large baskets full of leftover bread and fish. 44 And there were five thousand men who ate the bread.
45 Soon he urged his disciples to get in the boat and go to the other side (of the sea) to Bethsaida, until he could release the crowd. 46 And once he separated from them, he went off to the hill to pray.
47 And when the evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, but (Jesus) was alone on land. 48 And he saw them torturing themselves trying to row, for the wind was acting like their enemy. Around the fourth watch of the night, he came to them, walking on the sea. And he desired to come near them. 49 And having seen him walking on the sea, they thought “It’s a ghost!” and screamed. 50 They all saw him and were freaked out. But immediately he spoke and said to them “Have courage! I AM. Have no fear.” 51 And he went up with them into the boat, and the wind stopped being angry. And inside themselves they were exceedingly- almost excessively- flabbergasted. 52 For they had not understood what the loaves meant, but had been hard hearted.
53 And having passed over to land, they came to Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 And when they got out of the boat, people immediately recognized who he was. 55 They ran around the whole area- this way, that way- and began carrying sick people on mats to wherever they would hear that he was. 56 And wherever he went- villages, cities, fields, marketplaces- the sick and weak were lying there, and they begged to be able to touch the tassel of his outer garment. And all of those who did were delivered.
